Tricycles locally known as Batch cars in The Gambia have been temporarily stopped for commercial transportation of passengers on the roads within Greater Banjul.
The tricycles ban comes amid safety campaign led by the President of the Gambia Transport Union, Omar Ceesay, who described the motorcycles as posing “danger to the lives of passengers on board”.
“The ban on tricycles has really affected us, because these are the only affordable cars that go to our areas in Bakoteh,” a passenger told Gambiana.
The tricycles which have been plying the roads in the country for more than a decade are demanded by the chief of the transport union be regulated, as he expressed concern their influx will lead the country’s transport sector into problems in the future.
Gambiana will update its readers on the reactions of the tricycle drivers who are asked to temporarily stop plying the roads as they wait for regulations.
