Spokesman for the APRC breakaway group has blasted the indictment of exiled former President Yahya Jammeh in The Gambia Government white paper.

Jammeh, 57, has been recommended by the Truth, Reconciliation and Reparations (TRRC) commission for prosecution over a range of human rights crimes including killings, torture, arbitrary arrests and detentions of opponents. 

Pro-Jammeh APRC spokesman Pa Modou Mbowe said: “we haven’t held any meeting on the government white paper and I don’t think we will do that soon because we are not threatened by it. 

“We are satisfied with the law in the country which is innocent until found guilty. If they have substantial evidence against President Jammeh to prosecute him in a court of law, so be it, but if they have no evidence, let get over it and allow peace to exist.”

Mbowe continued: “We are not seeing eye-to-eye with Tombong’s executive because they are talking about NPP and we are talking about APRC. 

“We contested against each other in the past national assembly election and we defeated them massively in Foni, and we are coming to celebrate that victory this month. 

“People are seeing which group is gaining the upper hand, the past election can tell where we got five seats and they got only two seats. So, we are gaining the upper hand over them.”
