Earlier today, tension erupted at the Bundung high court after riot police attempted to block supporters of Bubacarr Keita from accessing the court complex.

Mr Keita is standing trial for allegedly raping his ex-wife’s teen sister resulting in a pregnancy.

He denies the charge. He first appeared in court in 2019.

Supporters of Keita staged a peaceful protest outside the court to demand fair trial and justice.

They cast doubt on the case and long delay in the trial process.

They chanted “Free Bob! Free Bob” as riot police were deployed to the court premises to keep the peace.

The tension between Keita’s supporters and the police at the court today (18 July) led to an adjournment of the case to Thursday.

Bob Keita’s case has recently attracted a heated debate among Gambians on social media as more details emerged.

Last week the presiding judge ordered for a DNA test amid report of death of the child involved.
