High court Judge Ebrima Jaiteh has adjourned Sainabou Mbye’s manslaughter case to Friday after the state prosecutors told the court that they are not yet ready with some of the indictment on the case including a postmortem result.

The state prosecutors led by Patrick Gomez asked the court to give them two weeks to get themselves prepared for indictment. 

Gomez asked for the accused to be detained during the time.

However, defence counsel Kumbe Gaye dismissed the state prosecutor’s submission arguing that the court can grant bail to her clients from remand at Mile 2 prison. 

She said the state prosecutors have nothing before the court, adding that they “deliberately came to the court unprepared”.

The court has ordered the defence lawyer to submit her motion of appeal within 24 hours which will be dealt with by the court on Friday.

Ms Mbye, Cherno Mbye and Kibily Dambely arrived at the Banjul High Court in a white minivan under a heavy security escort.

They are facing manslaughter charges over the death of baby Muhammad, the child at the centre of Bob Keita’s rape trial. 

Bob Keita is Ms Mby’s ex-husband accused of raping his underage sister/in-law in 2019 leading to pregnancy.
