Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC) has distributed food packs and supplies to flood victims in the municipality.

KMC enlisted the support of hundreds of its municipal council police, soldiers and fire officers to help distribute the relief supplies to the affected communities. 

The supplies included food items as well as pumping machines. 

Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda said the support was part of its relief efforts to victims of last weekend’s devastating floods. 

The area is one of the worst hit places from the floods which destroyed houses and roads. 

Meanwhile, calls are intensifying for measures to be taken to avert the recurrence of such devastating floodings in the country.

The government Minister of Environment and Climate Change Ms Rohey John-Manjang, whose house was also flooded, linked the flooding to climate change and indiscriminate dumping. 

She called for attitudinal change on tackling climate change in the country.
