Omar Jatto Jammeh, National Assembly member for Janjanbureh constituency, has hit out at the minister of Youths and Sports, Bakary Badjie, for paying his wife £200 per day travel allowance for two weeks during Commonwealth Games in Birmingham and Islamic Games in Turkey.
Bakary Badjie is facing backlash after a letter from his ministry authorising the payment was leaked online. Dozens of Gambians have taken to social media to condemn the act as “corruption.”
Speaking exclusively to Gambiana on Saturday, MP Jatto Jammeh criticised the minister over the incident saying that he is not committed to youths and sports development in the country.
“Youth and Sports development has proven to be lip service by our socall executives and technocrats in the sector whilst our policy holders are squandering tax payers money.
“Imagine a minister including the wife not only to be delegate but also paid per diem that isn’t justifiable and our young people struggles to get any meaningful support for their careers. Shame on the minister of Youth and Sports,” he said.
