A brawl broke out between the National Assembly members for Latrikunda Sabji, Yaya Sanyang and Foni Kansala’s Almami Gibba during a session with victims of the Jammeh regime.
The group of lawmakers, victims of the Jammeh regime and officials of the National Human Rights Commission were having a session on the TRRC report in a bid to push for scrapping of some draconian laws and compensation for the victims.
But the session turned sour after Foni Kansala MP, Almami Gibba took the floor.
“I also have some observations on the TRRC report. My point here as the saying goes: victims, victims, victims. We really feel sorry for the people who were affected,” Mr Gibba said.
“This should be a learning course to look inward at what the causes are. And again, also I know some videos, if for example people would speak up as victims, those who are quiet are also victims.”
He added that some of the victims of the Jammeh regime were also perpetrators of serious human rights abuses
“If you talk of victims…they have also done heinous crimes, but they are not talked about.
“Do you expect us to stand here and speak about the aspect of the TRRC or do we feel sorry for the victims?
“But we know singlehandedly that the TRRC was meant for a purpose. So, for that purpose we should speak the truth. So, people are saying I lost my father, but their fathers have also butchered people alive and put them in bags.”
However, Latrikunda Sabiji’s MP, Yaya Sanyang interjected to ask Gibba to mention the names of those whom he alleged to have committed human rights violations so that they will be exposed.
“Tells us their names so that they will be exposed,” Sanyang interjected.
Gibba took exception to Sanyang’s intervention.
Suddenly, a row broke out as the two men were restrained from fighting as they exchanged insults at each other.
