Momodou Sabally, a United Democratic Party campaign manager, has vowed to continue holding the government to account hours after his release from police detention over a viral TikTok video.

The firebrand politician has been in detention for eleven days, but got released on Friday (December 30) after the intervention of the Supreme Islamic Council.

However, Sabally described his arrest as “politically motivated”.

He said: “I believe my arrest was politically motivated. I definately believe that and most people believe that because I am one of the loudest voices in this country. The biggest critic of this government. Well if anything, they have amplify my voice.”

He continued: “I will continue to exercise my democratic and fundamental human rights of freedom of speech. I will continue to criticise this government.

“I will continue to hold them accountable. I will continue to speak to the media both locally and internationally to make sure that we have a better Gambia as dream and fought for.”
