The Gambia government has declared an alledged coup plotter Warrant Officer Class 2 Lamin Jadama a wanted fugitive escaping justice.
The suspect is among a group of soldiers including two civilians and a police officer charged with treason and conspiracy to commit treason for allegedly attempting to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Adama Barrow in December 2022.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges before a magistrate of a lower court on Friday (6 January) who transferred their case to the high court in Banjul.
They’re all being remanded at the state central prison, Mile Two in Banjul.
“The Gambia Government declares Warrant Officer Class Two (2) Lamin Jadama a fugitive from justice and urges citizens and security agencies both within and outside the jurisdiction to report him to the nearest police or security post,” the government spokesman Ebrima G Sankareh told Gambiana.
According to him, investigations into the alleged coup plot “are progressing and members of the public would be notified accordingly”.
