The High Court in Banjul will hear the case of the alleged coup plotters next Tuesday (17 January). 

The court will be presided over by Justice Basirou VP Mahoney, Gambiana has learned. 

Last week, the accused were arranged before a magistrate at the Kanifing Magistrates Court charged with treason and conspiracy to commit treason for allegedly attempting to overthrow the democratically elected government of President Adama Barrow in December 2022. 

The suspects, including six serving soldiers, a policeman and a civilian, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

One of the suspects Warrant Officer Class 2 Lamin Jadama is on the run and has been declared a wanted fugitive escaping justice.

The case was transferred to the high court  in Banjul as it does not have the jurisdiction. 

All accused persons were remanded at the state central prison, Mile Two.
