The National Assembly Public Finance Committee has announced move to take actions against individuals with unpaid government loans for failing to comply with it report.

The Gambia National Audit Office had published last year millions of dalasi of imprest (loan for service) on some former and present government officials.

The house committee promptly submitted a resolution with ultimatum demanding that the unpaid imprest be paid by 30 October 2022.

Speaking exclusively to Gambiana on Sunday (15 January), Alhagie S. Darboe, chairman of the Public Finance Committee said “at the end of 30 October 2022 we had a meeting with the Accountant General and the Ministry of Finance on this issue, that coincided with the budget session and both committee meeting came to standstill.”

Darboe added: “When we resume on 16 of this month, then the Accountant General and the Ministry of Finance will be enquired to give us the final update on the state of untired imprest, there we will know those who have complied and those who haven’t complied, and then what actions should be taken against those who still are not complying and the public will be informed.”
