Mustapha Touray, a mayoral aspirant for Kanifing Municipal Council, has fired back at critics caricaturing his poor English speaking as ignorant people.

Mr Touray has filed his application to the ruling National People’s Party to contest the upcoming mayoral election in Kanifing Municipal Council.

“Speaking English is not compulsory, so why should I be speaking English to my fellow Gambians who are not English. 

“I can tell those criticising me that I can speak and write in English better than them and I can also write and speak in two other European languages,” Touray asserted.

“If they brag about speaking colorful English language, but how many Gambians can understand the English language.

“So, anyone who wants  to communicate to Gambians should use our local languages. Those saying such things are politicians who don’t have anything to offer Gambians than such baseless criticism,” he added.
