Omar Sey, a teacher from Nioro Jatta village, has died after being knocked off his bicycle by a pick-up truck. 

“Mr Sey was knocked down on his bicycle by a pick-up truck on his way to school near Kuli-Kunda along the Kiang West highway,” eyewitnesses told Gambiana.

According to one of the eyewitnesses, the accident occurred while he was cycling to Kuli-Kunda Primary School where he was posted by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education.

He reportedly died on the scene from his injuries. 

Mr Sey has previously worked as caretaker in Nioro before he went back to school after more than 20 years of being unable to finish his education due to financial difficulties.

The deceased teacher is also a prominent youth activist in the Lower River Region having served in youth committees both at regional and district levels.
