Ahmed Talib Bensouda, mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, has accused the Barrow government of illegally breaking into his office to forcefully install the suspended KMC chief executive Sainabou Martin-Sonko.
“In the presence of Councillors and Gambia Association of Local Government Authority leaders, the Gambia Government via ‘executive order’ are currently trying to illegally break into an office to forcefully install the CEO against council resolution .
“This is all while mayor of Banjul and chairman of Mansakonko hold meeting at KMC. 10 officers with operatives from Ministry of Local Government have accompanied the CEO to break into an office of their choice to place her against council resolution,” he said.
“This is not only a breach of protocol and constitutional jurisdiction but a sad day in governance and democracy,” Bensouda added.
