Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have taken 32 suspects into custody following raids within the Greater Banjul Area.
According to the DLEAG spokesman Ousman Saidybah, theoperation covered Kololi, Sukuta, Senegambia, Manjai and other areas notorious for the dealing and open abuse of illicit drugs within the Kanifing Municipality.
“So far, 32suspects have been taken into custody on suspicion of being engaged in drug related activities.
“Twenty nine of them were apprehended by DLEAG operatives while the remaining three suspects were handed over to us by personnel of the Gambia Police Police who were equally engaged in similar mopping up operation,” he told Gambiana.
“Various types of prohibited and controlled drugs including cannabis sativa, cannabis resin, skunk, kush and tramadol were seized by the operatives.
“Some of the suspects were apprehended in bars and restaurants within the Senegambia and Kololi strip.
“The owners of such places were cautioned against knowingly and deliberately permitting the dealing and open abuse of drugs within their premises as this contravenes the provisions of the DCA 2003,”he added.
