The Gambia U-20 team will arrive in Banjul today after a successful AFCON football tournament in Egypt.
The Young Scorpions secured second position in the AFCON U-20 championship after losing the final to Senegal’s Young Teranga Lions.
They put up a stellar display of footballing prowess seeing giants Nigeria and Tunisia during the tournament.
The team also secured a spot alongside Senegal, Nigeria and Tunisia in next year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup in Indonesia.
One of the players, Mamin Sanyang, is full of praise for his coach, team and the fans.
He said: “I’m very grateful and proud to be part of this team and to know each of you. Special thanks to the coach, staff and the Federation for the trust and privilege to show my talent on and off the pitch.
“I learnt many things in these past weeks. You’re all very humble, funny, discipline, and all that will grow with us. I have made nice memories and the most important thing is we made history. It means a lot for me. Thank you fans back home. I can’t be prouder to be a Gambian.”
