Ahmad Gitteh, an estranged member of the ruling National People’s Party, has said ideological differences led to him falling out with the party.

Gitteh, who is running for Brikama Area Council’s chairmanship under an independent ticket after the party refused to back him, accused some of the NPP senior leaders of interfering in the party’s election process.

He was defeated by journalist-turn politician Seedy Ceesay, the preferred NPP candidate to contest in the upcoming local government elections in Brikama.

Gitteh also said his ideological differences meant he would not have been able to serve in President Barrow’s cabinet.

“I used to say this that if I was in the cabinet by today with my ideology and ideas, with how I think, then Barrow would have sacked me by now,” he said.

“I am not saying I don’t have the qualification to be a minister but for me now I think I am best suited for local government.”
