Election Watch Committee (EWC) has reported clashes between the supporters of the ruling National People’s Party and opposition United Democratic Party in Banjul and Bakau during voting.

Gambians today head back to the polls to elect mayors and chairmen.

Speaking to reporters at a press briefing held at a local hotel in Kololi, Omar Cham, an observer said: “The Election Watch Committee observers in Banjul reported incidents of violence between the NPP and UDP party supporters in different locations within the area. It was reported that these incidents disrupted the voting process.”

“As well in Bakau an EWC observer reported an incident of a man who was detected to be in possession of two voters cards in which one was registered at Bakau and the other one was registered at Njawara in Badibou. The presiding officer seized the voter’s cards and didn’t allow him to vote,” he added.
