Alhagie Mbye Gaye, a famous Gambian drama actor, has died.
Gaye passed away peacefully today (9 July) in Banjul, family sources told Gambiana.
“Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi raji’un. It’s with deep sorrow that we announced the demise of Alagie Mbye Gaye of Mantel Banjul. Condolences to Yetteh Drama, the performing art fraternity and all friends and families in The Gambia and outside.
May his final adobe be at the highest position in Jannah,” the family said in a statement.
Mr Mbye’s death has left many Gambians especially those in the creative and performing art sector in shock.
He is described as devoted Muslim and great artist who contributed immensely towards promoting the Gambian culture.
“He will be greatly missed by all and sundry especially those who crossed path with him as a beautiful soul full of life. May Allah forgive all his shortcomings, graciously illuminate his grave with nurul haq. May his soul and all departed faithful rest in the highest chambers of Paradise,” one Mass Jallow said as he paid condolences to the deceased family.
The late Mbye was among ‘Yette Drama group’ a famous Gambian drama group.
The deceased will be laid to rest today Sunday at 2pm at Old Jeshwang Muslim Cemetery.
