Awa Jonga who goes by her stage name Awa Gambia has sustained head injury after being pelted with stones while performing on stage in Kafuta. 

In statement, her manager Ali Wally said: “It is with deep regret that we inform our fans and the media about a shocking incident that occurred during Awa Gambia recent performance last Friday night on the 21st July 2023 at Kafuta in Kombo East. While she was passionately performing on stage, an unfortunate, disturbing and unforgiving incident took place.

“A member of the audience threw a stone at Awa Gambia head causing significant injury that required immediate medical attention. She was promptly rushed to the nearest medical facility at Brikama Hospital for emergency treatment.

“We express our sincere gratitude to the venue’s staff, security personnel, and medical responders for their swift actions in this distressing situation.

“Awa Gambia is currently receiving the best medical care available. The extent of the injury is being evaluated, and further updates on her recovery will be provided as soon as they are available.”

The young singer is due to perform in Norway with two other Gambian female singers in August. She is widely loved for her melodious voice.
