Police have charged Sheriffo Sonko of United Democratic Party and a nominated councillor of Brikama Area Council with threatening a public officer with violence over comment he allegedly made on his Facebook page against the police.

He has been released on D100,000 bail bond after being detained for days at the Kairaba Police station. 

Police also asked him to surrender his travel document and report back to the station the next day.

Leader of United Democratic Party, Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, has condemned the arrests of Sonko and Momodou Sabally as provocation.
