A business woman in rural Gambia will not be obliged anytime soon to travel to the Kombos to sell her goods as Banjul mayor talked ways with her counterparts in the United States to introduce a digital marketing platform to ease plights of women entrepreneurs.
Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe said: “I had a fruitful meeting with my dear brothers Mayor Jaylen Smith of Earle, Arkansas the youngest mayor in the United States, and the mayor of North Miami Alix Delsume.
“We spent almost half a day ensuring that our action plans were mapped out to be implemented in the shortest time possible. Mayor Delsume agreed to support the E-commerce platform immediately after the consultant who is assigned to do the costing is done with the work.
“This will give opportunity to Gambian women to network and trade their goods online. The woman in Baddibou can easily sell her cassava to the woman in Banjul without going to any market. Hotels can buy online without any hustle. Mayor Delsume also agreed on the cultural and school exchange programmes for students as agreed in Banjul.
“Mayor Smith who is very passionate about youth issues is more than happy to welcome five of my Councillors to his city in February 2024 for a cultural exchange, capacity building on governance, and public speaking.”
“I am more than grateful to both mayors and I wish to sincerely thank them on behalf of the people of Banjul and my humble self for the time spent with me talking about the welfare of the people of Banjul, the hospitality and gesture are well appreciated,” she added.
