A man has recounted how he escaped attempted robbery after making cash withdrawal at a bank in Senegambia.

Clifton Hammond, who is currently worried about his safety, claimed that the alleged armed robbers have details about him.

He said his vigilance stopped him from being robbed after making a cash withdrawal.  

“I was at the GTBank to withdraw some money and when I withdrew the money, a guy was on a phone call and immediately I felt suspicious because he was looking in my direction. So, I entered my car and lowered my glasses so he wouldn’t know I was watching him. But he was still making the phone calls. The moment I drove away there were two guys on a motorbike behind me. As they followed me, I went to Senegambia end,” he said.

He added: “So what I wanted to do was to take them to the Palma Rima checkpoint and tell these police that these guys are following me and they should arrest them and the moment I reached there I was talking to the police like a normal traffic control, and I think they read something and drove away. I took two PIU police officers and we drove to the bank. 

“About two minutes later, I saw the same guy making a phone call. I went to him and told him to stop the call. Police checked his phone [call logs] and took him to Senegambia police station. 

“While under questioning he refused to give details about the suspected robbers.  I talked to him and said the police will check your phone because you are even an undocumented migrant in this country. The guy is Nigerian. 

“And I said to him that if you confessed I can place a bail for them to release you. That’s the moment the guy started talking. My plate number was in his phone, he texted it to these guys. He was the guy communicating with the gang leader called Don and the other guy Eff. So the police interrogated him and he confessed to everything. He confessed about how the gang operates,” he said.
