President Adama has said his government is committed to addressing plights hindering the private sector growth.
Barrow gave the commitment during a meeting with National Business Council at State House.
“I hereby recommit my government to resolving the bottlenecks constraining the development of the private sector. I will mention six of them,” he said.
The president described private sector-driven economic growth as a viable development model for The Gambia, adding that “a dynamic private sector requires a strong enabling environment and the removal of obstacles to trade and investment.”
Barrow assured of his government commitment to ensure that the necessary conditions are created for the private sector to grow and thrive.
Meanwhile, he highlighted that starting a business in the country should be easy in order to “attract investors and formalise businesses in the country”, adding that the Ministry of Trade is working with development partners to develop an online business registration platform that will be commissioned later in the year.
He continued to urge the council to continue monitoring this initiative, which he said will have far-reaching benefits and positively impact the ease of doing business in the country.
“Businesses should shoulder a fair share of the burden of national development,” he added.
