Imam Baba Leigh has fired back at Imam Abdoulie Fatty, describing him as a “big bully” in the country. 

The two imams have been at a loggerhead over female circumcision.

Speaking at a news conference organised by CSO coalition who are demanding the lawmakers to throw out a bill seeking to repeal law against FGM, Imam Baba Leigh said: “my fellow imams especially Sheikh Imam Abdoulie Fatty…he is a big bully, I’m telling you. He is bullying the whole country including the lawmakers. He is terrorising them on this issue with all his ego.

“I have passed the stage of debating Imam Fatty. I have no doubt about Imam Fatty’s knowledge, in fact I contributed to his knowledge. Where I have doubt is his credibility. Because I saw him in that (Jammeh) regime, I saw him with this regime. Where they were given water by Jammeh, where they used that water as naso (spiritual water) and now they say naso is haram.”

“These people have no moral authority to talk to their congregations. A religious leader should be a leader in easiness, and you should be a leader in difficulty,” he added.
