A Gambian man, Lamin Touray, has been allegedly shot and killed in the city of Nienburg by the German Police.

According to sources, the police shot dead the victim while he was allegedly armed with a knife.

However, German police said the 46-year-old man had been threatening his girlfriend with a knife.

Police said the man did not comply with orders and attacked them with a knife after which he was shot several times and was killed.

“During the longer police operation, the man did not comply with the officers’ requests and attacked them with a knife. Multiple gunshots were fired, which resulted in the 46-year-old fatally injured,” Nienburg police said in a statement on Facebook.

Gambian migrants in Germany have condemned the police action as “barbaric and heinous” while calling for an investigation into the tragic situation. They announced to  protest against the death of Lamin Touray.

A source who does not want to be named told Gambiana:”the Policejust killed him intentionally because he was holding the knife moving around.

“He (Lamin Touray) didn’t attack anybody. They could have  handled the situation better and they know better.

Another one added: I cannot understand how a group of well trained German Police Officers couldn’t disarm a suspect armed with a knife without resorting to shooting him. I think the intention was to eliminate him due to the colour of his skin.”
