A Gambian civil society group has said the Barrow government is acting “slow” to prosecute Jammeh-era perpetrators.

Democracy Watch Gambia made the comment after a former interior minister of the Jammeh regime was jailed for 20 years by a court in Switzerland on Wednesday.

Sonko was convicted of intentional homicide, torture and false imprisonment.

The group said: “Swiss Court verdict is welcome news. Although progress is slower than preferred, all indications are that is committed to implementing the TRRC recommendations to prosecute Jammeh & co. But it’s essential such happens at pace, and those at large be actively pursued,” the organisation said on X formerly Twitter.
