At least 30 families at Farato Bonjang Kunda have been forced to evict their homes as man claims ownership of their already-built houses.
The victims accused a man they named as Kebba Jallow of leading a group of armed riot police officers and some non-Gambians with hammers to attack their homes.
Ebrima Jallow, one of the family heads, said: “on Thursday he (Kebba Jallow) he came with some Nigerians who were with hammers and personnel of paramilitary to ensure if anyone refused the eviction they will be arrested. So, we spent that night outside. The following morning, a boy came and told us that Kebba Jallow wants us to sign an agreement that he owns the plot of land.”
Another person affected by the eviction who preferred anonymity told Gambiana that “the PIU officers stormed our compounds and asked us to go out and when we asked them for what reason, they said they were operating on orders. This is very sad.”
Ebrima Bojang added: “They came with some non-Gambians to invade our homes, and we had an altercation with them because it’s a total disrespect to allow non-Gambians to invade our houses.”
However, both the police and the alleged mastermind Kebba Jallow couldn’t be reached for comment up to the time of publication.
