Police have released Ebrima Dibba and Bakary Sillah on bail after charging them with sedition.

Mr Dibba had been in the hands of the police since returning back to the country on Thursday from US. He was arrested over audios he is alleged to have slur President Adama Barrow. Bakary Sillah was also arrested the following day.

“They were previously detained on charges of uttering seditious words against the President, a violation of Section 52(1)(b) of the Criminal Code, Cap 10, Volume 3, Laws of The Gambia. As the investigation continues, both individuals are required to regularly report while on bail,” police said.

However, rights activists and members of the United Democratic Party have condemned the duos detention as violation of free speech and an intimidation by the Barrow administration.
