Ebrima Dibba, deputy organising secretary of the opposition United Democratic Party, has appeared before Banjul magistrate’s court on sedition charges.

Mr Dibba has been charged with sedition over an audio he reportedly slurs in the person of President Adama Barrow. This happened after he returned to the country from the United States last week.

Earlier today, the beleaguered politician was accompanied to the police headquarters in Banjul by a huge crowd of United Democratic Party supporters before appearing before a magistrate at the city’s lower court.

A charge sheet stated that the accused person commits crime of “seditious Intention contrary to section 51(1)(a) punishable under section 52(1)(b) &(c) of the Criminal Code Cap10:01 Volume III Laws of The Gambia 2009.”

However, his arrest has been condemned by UDP supporters and some Gambians as politically motivated. They called on the Barrow government to drop the “trumped up”charges against the latter.
