Mama Kandeh, leader of the opposition Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC), has said he warned the Gambian electorate against electing an inept government in office but they failed to listen to him.
Mr Kandeh who lost twice to the incumbent President Adama Barrow in the country’s presidential elections is among political leaders who still dispute Barrow’s landslide re-election in 2021.
Speaking to GDC members who paid a courtesy Eid call on him, Kandeh said: “In 2017, I told Gambians that slavery has ended in the country, but they have taken the country into a deep hole. But Gambians didn’t listen to me but we are living the consequences. We are not doing our politics on lies and deception. It’s not a secret the problem Gambians are going through.
“That’s why I don’t want us to say anything about President Barrow. Let’s not waste our time on Adama Barrow. We all have seen what is happening in the country. And now what does GDC have in addressing those problems if we are elected in office.”
