The ministry of information has clarified that the shooting of Gambian truck driver Amadou Jah by Senegalese soldiers happened in Casamance, southern Senegal.

Mr Jah was hospitalised after sustaining serious gunshot wounds on early Friday morning.

Speaking to the ministry’s communication officer, Zainab Jobarteh told Gambiana: “the incident happened in Senegalese territory not in Gambian territory.”

However, the Senegalese authorities have not commented on the incident.

The latest shooting has sparked fresh concerns and condemnations in the country, as scores of Gambians are reacting to the unfortunate incident to criticise the Barrow government.

This followed three shootings of Gambians by Senegalese armed soldiers since Barrow took power in 2017.
