Ex-Brigadier General Bora Colley who has been on the run since the collapsed of the Jammeh regime has been arrested in the Gambia.
The senior army officer is alleged to have been a member of ex-president Yahya Jammeh’s infamous death squad, the ‘Junglers’.
The group was reportedly behind several high profile killings of opponents of the Jammeh regime.
Colley has been adversely mentioned by victims who appeared before the Truth Reconciliation and Reparations Commission for committing gross human rights crimes.
“The Gambia Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public about the arrest of ex-Brigadier General Bora Colley, a former senior officer of GAF and an alleged member of the ‘Junglers’ who escaped the jurisdiction following the departure of the former President, Yahya Jammeh to Equatorial Guinea in January 2017,” the Gambia Armed Forces said.
Colonel Lamin K Sanyang, Director of Press & Public Relations Gambia Armed Forces added: “Ex-General Colley was arrested on Friday 9 August 2024 around midnight when he voluntarily surrendered himself to the GAF Military Police in Yundum Barracks.”
He added that the senior officer is currently detained and cooperating with the Military Police in their investigations.
