A Guinea Bissau drug trafficker has been arrested with more than eleven suspected blocks of cocaine in The Gambia.
Aruna Gassama, 41, was arrested at the southern Gambia border village of Giboro by officers of Gambia’s Drug Law Enforcement Agency while travelling in a Toyota Land Cruiser.
He has since been detained pending charges and possible prosecution under the laws of the land.
“Aruna Gassama, a Bissau Guinean was arrested by Giboro border post DLEAG officers with 11 blocks of suspected cocaine which is found in his vehicle Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number RGB1077CH,” DLEAG said.
Meanwhile, five more suspects were arrested for possession of illegal substances within Greater Banjul Area.
It’s a criminal offence in the Gambia to possess or trafficked drugs, and offenders could faces a harsh punishment of a million dalasis fine and 10 years’ prison term.
