Yankuba Colley, former mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council, has been buried at a cemetery in Talinding. He died last week of an undisclosed illness in Turkey where he was receiving treatment.

Scores of mourners Monday turned up to pay their tribute to a former policeman and mayor of Kanifing Municipal Council.

His death has been described by many of the mourners as a great ‘loss’ for the country, as they eulogised him of being a “generous, kind hearted and jealous-free”man who shared anything he had with others.

A coffin sheltering his remains was drabbed in the Gambia national flag and escorted to his final abode by personnel of the Gambia Police Force after the Muslim rite for the dead.

“Yankuba Colley was not jealous. Despite, we came from different political parties, he travelled to my office and greeted me and offered me some advice,” his successor mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda said in his emotional tribute.

Another mourner who happened to be a childhood friend of the late Colley described him as a “good person who had respect for humanity and he was a generous man who would help others in secret.”
