The Drug Law Enforcement Agency of The Gambia (DLEAG) has arrested three individuals for cultivating suspected cannabis sativa in a significant sting operation that uncovered nine cannabis farms.

 This operation, conducted in the early hours of October 5 underscores the agency’s intensified efforts to combat drug-related activities across the nation.

DLEAG agents began their search around 2:00 AM GMT, initially locating eight farms. A swift response from the Police Intervention Unit (PIU) led to the discovery of an additional farm, showcasing the power of collaborative law enforcement.

DLEAG officials thanked the Inspector General of Police and the Chief of Defence Staff for their quick logistical support, emphasising that unity among security agencies is key in the fight against drug-related crime.

In another operation on September 30, DLEAG apprehended American national Alfred John Francis in Sifoe, seizing nine cannabis plantations and additional suspected drugs from his home.

DLEAG warns that cultivating cannabis is illegal under the Drug Control Act 2003, with fines reaching D300,000 for individuals. The agency urges all citizens to avoid involvement in drug cultivation, promising strict enforcement against violators.
