Seven electricians from the country’s utility company NAWEC are reportedly killed after an old electric pole fell onto live wires, resulting in instant electrocution.
The incident occurred in Kerr Galo, near Essau, while the team was engaged in replacing aging poles.
Witnesses described a chaotic scene as emergency services arrived.
“It was devastating to see. They were just doing their job when the accident happened,” a local resident is quoted as saying.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the safety protocols in place and the condition of the infrastructure involved.
The community mourns the loss of the workers, who were well-regarded for their dedication to maintaining essential services.
