The Gambia’s Scorpions are set for a challenging encounter this afternoon as they take on Madagascar’s Berea in a critical doubleheader in the AFCON qualifiers at the Stade Municipal de Mahajanga.

Having secured only two points from their last three matches, and suffering a disappointing loss to Tunisia, the Scorpions find themselves under increasing pressure.

Currently sitting fourth in their group, they must secure a victory today to keep their qualification hopes alive.

The players have faced significant backlash from fans and analysts alike regarding their commitment and performance throughout the qualifiers, with many questioning their ability to rise to the occasion.

Coach Jonathan Ministry, who took the helm following Tom Saintfiet’s departure in September, is also under scrutiny. Since his appointment, he has managed to win only one match.

As the Scorpions prepare for this pivotal clash, the stakes have never been higher. A win not only boosts their chances of progressing in the tournament but could also restore faith in a team eager to make its mark on the continental stage.
