The Gambia U-17 football team is set to depart for Senegal today to compete in the highly anticipated WAFU-A Championship.

The team will face the Senegal U-17 squad on October 20 in Thies, with hopes of making a strong impression in the regional tournament.

In their final preparations, the Gambian team showcased their skills with an impressive 3-0 victory against the Gambia U-15 squad in a friendly match at the late Ousman Saho Field in Old Yundum.

This decisive win, marked by goals from Bakary Jammeh, Francis Gomez, and Bubacarr Suso, has bolstered the team’s confidence ahead of the championship.

Coach Yahya Manneh expressed his satisfaction with the team’s performance, noting that many players are junior and secondary school students who have worked hard to develop their skills.

“We have a young and talented squad, and I believe they are ready to compete at this level,” Manneh said.

The WAFU-A Championship is a significant opportunity for the U-17 team to showcase their talents on an international stage, with hopes of advancing to future competitions. Fans and supporters are eagerly anticipating the team’s journey, as they aim to bring glory to Gambia in the tournament.
