Police in Banjul are investigating the alleged murder of a 20-year-old man from Talinding, who reportedly died after an altercation with a truck driver on 18 November.

The suspect, a truck driver, surrendered himself to authorities at Banjul Terminal Police Station, claiming the incident occurred after he confronted the victim for allegedly attempting to break into his truck, which held D17,000.

The confrontation escalated, leading to a physical altercation during which the victim lost consciousness and was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

On 19 November, crime scene investigators and forensic experts visited the location to reconstruct the incident. Initial reports indicate the victim sustained a bruise with bloodstains at the back of his head.

The suspect has been charged with murder and is currently in police custody.

Meanwhile, the body of the deceased has been transported to the Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital (EFSTH) for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
