President Adama Barrow has urged residents of the Kanifing Municipality to hold Mayor Ahmed Talib Bensouda and his administration accountable for the state of cleanliness in the area, describing the municipality as “filthy.”

Speaking at a meeting in Ebo Town, a community grappling with underdevelopment, Barrow expressed his dismay over the conditions he encountered.

“I went to Bundung yesterday, passing through Serekunda, and found the entire place dirty. Everywhere was littered,”Barrow said.

“I came around the market, but the place was so filthy that if you were served food there, you wouldn’t be able to eat.”

He questioned the effectiveness of the Kanifing Municipal Council (KMC), accusing it of failing to address basic hygiene and sanitation issues.

“You say you have a council, so what is the council doing for the people? The KMC isn’t doing anything for you.

“If they’re not doing their job, you should take it upon yourselves to clean your area. As a government, we can’t do everything,”he added.
