Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party (UDP), has described his recently concluded nationwide tour as a significant success, claiming it spurred widespread defections to his party ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
Speaking on Coffe Time show, Darboe expressed enthusiasm about the tour’s outcomes, which he referred to as the “Defection Tour”.
“It was the most exciting tour we have ever undertaken, and we purposely named it the ‘Defection Tour’ because it was about reconnecting with people and strengthening ties as we prepare for the next election. We must do better this time to position The Gambia for progress,” he said.
He acknowledged challenges in some regions, particularly the Upper River Region (URR), where he noted morale had dipped.
However, he expressed optimism that the tour had revitalised party supporters.
“The tour has boosted their morale significantly. In areas like Central River Region (CRR) North, we witnessed many defections to the UDP,” he added.
