Fortune Football Club secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Team Rhino FC, propelling them to the top position in the Gambia Football Federation Division 1 League.
The first half was a tense goalless draw. However, in the second half, Fortune’s midfield maestro, Ebou Sanyang, converted a penalty after Bakary Jawara was fouled in the box midway through the encounter.
With this win, Fortune FC moved ahead of Hart FC, much to the delight of their coach, Jane Joof. He expressed to reporters after the match that his team had been anticipating a victory against Team Rhino.
“I am very much pleased and delighted with the result of the game as we know it was the three points we were looking for. As we were the team that played last in Week 5. We were behind Hart FC when they played over the weekend. We told the boys this is a game we really need to win to go back on top,” Jane said during the post-match interview.
The Fortune FC coach, Jane Joof, underscored the importance of consistency at the pinnacle of the Gambian League, emphasising his team’s desire to approach matches one after the other.
“The most important thing is consistency, in the Gambian League when you are on top you need to be consistent with your performance. So what we are doing is taking it game by game and then trying to perform to our maximum.”
