Basse Mini Stadium is chosen as the ground to host the Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association National Inter-Schools Athletics Championship final scheduled to take place between th20th to 25th of February as revealed by Abdou Karim Sey, chairman of the competition.
Abdou Karim Sey disclosed the groundbreaking news during the Secondary Schools Sports Press Briefing earlier today at the Gambia Teachers Union Cooperative Credit Union (GTU CCU) Board Room.
Schools and student-athletes will travel from all over The Gambia to Basse, the administrative headquarters of the Upper River Region for what promised to be a mouth-watering showdown between schools and student-athletes.
“By the 20th of February, the National Finals will start in Basse mini stadium. This time we are trying to decentralise to give Basse the taste to host the National Finals. Farefenni has hosted it, and Bottrop has it and once the stadium is ready that is the natural grounds where we host the events,” Sey said.
Ismaila S. Ceesay, president of the Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association, also took time to inform the media that the Association will use the medal ranking system for this year’s Inter Schools Athletics final instead of the traditional points system to meet international standards.
However, the president stated to the media that the points would be used to determine the winners of the Regional Inter Schools Athletics Finals.
The Gambia Secondary Schools Athletics Competition sparks fanfare and an electric atmosphere across the length and breadth of the country will start on Friday 17th January simultaneously in Bansang and Basse as schools in Region 5 and 6 are set to battle in the Regional Qualifiers for a place in the Final.
