Ousainou Darboe, leader of the United Democratic Party, has opened up about Momodou Sabally’s departure from the party to join the ruling National People’s Party, stating he doesn’t miss the latter in his party.
Until his dramatic departure to the Barrow’s party in 2024, Sabally was serving as the campaign manager for the United Democratic Party. During his days in the opposition, he was a staunch critic of the Barrow administration, he once fiercely criticised for underperforming.
Speaking on QTV’s State of the Nation talk show, Darboe, who previously served as vice president under Barrow, said he doesn’t miss the outspoken economist-turned politician. He made the remarks when asked if he missed seeing the latter around him.
“Well, I really don’t. I said if Ebrima Dibba leaves the United Democratic Party today, it will shock me, and I am not saying that I would not be able to overcome the shock but it will take me sometimes. If Mbodge Saidykhan leaves the United Democratic Party, it will shock me, and it will take me some time before I recover from it.
“Mr Sabally came by me every time. In fact, I would say that he is integrated in my family. But Momodou Sabally is not in the same position as Ebrrima Dibba. Momodou Sbally was APRC all along, and then he decided to join UDP. But we believe in something in our party, which is that a true member of the United Democratic Party will not leave the party at all,” he added.
