The Sports Journalists Association of The Gambia (SJAG) has concluded a two-day capacity building seminar for 20 selected journalists in financial reporting and budget analysis skills held at the NaNA Hall.

The two-day intense capacity building workshop has exposed the participants to accurate financial reporting strategies and thorough budget analysis and interpretations especially when it comes to reporting on Sports Associations and federations and their financial transactions.

Omar Jarju, the president of the Sports Journalists Association, highlighted the importance of the training, stressing that financial reports and budget analysis skills will broaden the participants’ knowledge of financial reporting.

“Understanding the financial landscape of sports is vital for us to report accurately and hold those responsible for managing sports finances accountable.

“This training will empower journalists to delve deeper into the financial aspects of sports, ensuring transparency and better informed reporting,” Jarju said.

Lamin Jarra, a freelance journalist and a renowned commentator says the training has equipped the participants to better understand financial and budget reporting.

“This training is timely as it widens the scope of the participants thereby giving them the opportunities to be diverse in their reporting of inclusive activists of the Federation and sports Associations. With the knowledge gained in the training, it will no doubt go a long way to serve its purpose.” Jarra said.

The two days capacity building seminar for the 20 journalists was organised by the SJAG under the dynamic leadership of President Omar Jarju with funding from the Ministry Of Youth and Sports.
