Dr Sidat Jobe, former Gambian minister of foreign affairs and ambassador to France, has been laid to rest at Jeshwang Cemetery.

He died on Sunday at a hospital in Dakar, where he was receiving treatment for an illness. A large crowd of mourners gathered to bid a sombre farewell to him.

Among those paying tribute was Lawyer  Ousainou Darboe, who describes his passing as a great loss for the country.

“He was an accomplished diplomat, and he left an indelible mark on The Gambia. The nation has lost a very resourceful person,” said Darboe.

Hamat Bah, the minister of lands and religious affairs, also spoke of Dr. Sidat Jobe devotion to his faith and country.

“He was a patriot who loved his country, and he was a devoted Muslim,” he said.
