Shakawan Siddiqi, 32, was found guilty by a jury on Wednesday following a two-and-a-half week trial at Bristol Crown Court.

Siddiqi was convicted for the murder of Kunta Ceesay whom he attacked with a knife in an altercation last September.

The court has remanded Siddiqi into custody, and he is expected to be sentenced in approximately four weeks’ time.

In response to the conviction, the High Commission praised the team at Avon and Somerset Police for their efforts in investigating and prosecuting the case.

“We also express our sincere gratitude to the Gambian community in Bristol for their support, particularly in facilitating the repatriation of Mr. Kunta Ceesay,” the High Commission said.
