A Nigerian national, Alpha Jallow, also known as Collins Nwoke, who was arrested in Bakau with $23,100 and 57.5 million CFA francs in suspected forged banknotes, has been charged and remanded at Mile Two Prison.

He is charged with purchasing forged banknotes, contrary to Section 334 of the Criminal Code, Cap 10:01, Vol. 3 of the Laws of The Gambia, 2009.

However, he pleaded not guilty to the charge.

Under Gambian law, purchasing forged banknotes is classified as a felony and attracts a penalty of up to seven years’ imprisonment, a fine of 100,000 dalasis, or both.

Magistrate K. Baldeh of the Brusubi Magistrates’ Court adjourned the case to April 30, 2025.
