The Gambia’s Supreme Court has today ruled against Ya Kumba Jaiteh backing President Barrow’s decision to sack the parliamentarian.
The ruling will now allow Foday Gassama to be sworn in as a nominated lawmaker pending the outcome on the substantive case to determine the constitutionality of the revoking Kumba’s nomination.
The court will now move into the substantive case. However, Gassama will take oath on March 18 at the National Assembly Chambers in Banjul.
Ya Kumba was seeking an order to stop the national assembly clerk and speaker from swearing-in Foday Gassama as her replacement.
The female counsel was inexplicably fired weeks ago sparking debate over the legality of the move leading a vexed Jaiteh seeking redress from the courts.
